Origins & prehistory
The Aboriginal people were initially from Asia. They migrated 50 000 years ago, through "land bridges", during an era of low sea levels. This group of people could be one of the oldest populations living outside of Africa. The Aboriginal people we see today settled in different regions.
They are the Aboriginals of Australia, who inhabited the mainland when Britain began colonizing the island in 1788, and the Torres Strait Islander people who are the descendants of the residents of the Torres Strait Islands.
